Football picks US Tennis Association to pay $9 million to tennis player due to coach harassment
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) will pay $9 million to world No. 651 Kylie McKenzie.
The American sued the USTA in 2022. She alleged that coach Anibal Aranda sexually assaulted her when she was 19 years old.
The coach denied the allegations. The USTA suspended him and then fired him. While the organization was investigating McKenzie`s allegations, a USTA employee first reported that Aranda had also touched her inappropriately several years earlier.
The court ordered the USTA to pay $3 million in moral damages and $6 million for willful disregard for the rights and safety of others. They took into account the USTA`s attempts to hush up the matter.
Mackenzie is now 25 years old. Her highest position in the WTA rankings is 644th.
