Football picks Verstappen breaks Alonso`s record for wins from different starting positions
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has set another Formula 1 record.
The three-time world champion won the Sao Paulo Grand Prix from 17th starting position. In total, the Dutchman won from ten different positions on the grid. Verstappen previously shared the achievement with Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso, who won races from nine different positions. Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet, David Coulthard, Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton have one less.
Until yesterday, F1 drivers had won from such a low starting position five times: Bill Vukovich from 19th at the 1954 Indianapolis 500, John Watson from 17th at the 1982 Detroit Grand Prix and 22ndgo at the 1983 US West Grand Prix, Rubens Barrichello from 18th at the 2000 German Grand Prix and Raikkonen from 17th at the 2005 Japanese Grand Prix.
