Iga Swietek told how she found out about the positive doping test. On September 12, she was at a photo shoot when she received the ITIA notification.
I reacted very strongly. It was a mixture of confusion and panic. I cried a lot. I received an email. We receive email and SMS notifications when there is a problem or paperwork needs to be completed. I opened the email, thinking it was one of those automatic notifications players get when they need to do something. But this time the email turned out to be much more serious. I couldn`t even finish reading it because my tears started flowing.
My managers said that I reacted as if someone had died or something serious had happened to my health. I`m glad I wasn`t alone and could give them the phone and show them what happened. . .
I thought it might be a mistake. I didn`t understand what was happening at all. The name of the substance was completely unfamiliar to me; I had never heard of its existence. I couldn`t think about anything, I was overwhelmed with emotions.
According to Schwiatek, she was disgusted with tennis for some time. She summarized what she had experienced over the past two and a half months.
Horror. And a huge disappointment. At first it seemed to me that all this was happening because I was playing tennis. It was unbearable to even just go out onto the court. If it weren`t for my sparring partner Tomek Mocek, who at first worked with me like a child - we were just having fun on the court - I probably wouldn`t have gone to train at all.
I love playing tennis, but not enough to sacrifice my reputation or values. I found myself in a situation where, because of what happened, people suddenly began to have negative views of me.
I couldn`t do anything about it and in a sense I ended up in this situation because I`m an athlete. It took me a lot of effort to stop thinking like that and enjoy tennis again.
The main lesson for me is that you can`t always control everything. I am a person who is in control of almost every aspect of my life. Knowing that my destiny is not solely in my hands, and that whether I can play tennis or not depends on many other factors beyond my control, has taught me that such situations will arise and I mustdeal with them.
Shventek was caught for doping - the same as Valieva. But I got a ban for only a month
